Artist Spotlight: Royal Entry

Name: Royal Entry (Harold Cottingham)
Age: 30
Origin: Fayetteville, NC

Royal Entry's Bio:
In an era where the ability to create and produce music for mass consumption is readily available for anyone with an Internet connection, it's easy for artists to get log jammed behind countless numbers of emails, twitter DM's, Facebook hits and constant requests to "check out my new song" from "up and comers" who put more time into self promotion than honing their craft. That's where an artist like Royal Entry stands out from the crowd. Here's an artist who spends more time fine tuning lyrics to make sure listeners connect with the essence of the message than worrying about how many tweets he gets retweeted. Someone who constantly reviews his flow, delivery, presence, words to make sure no line is wasted. His attention to detail is second to none.

Though he was born in Florida he moved to Fayetteville, NC shortly after. Once in "The Ville" his family moved to Greensboro then Pennsylvania and finally back to Fayetteville, where he eventually put down roots. During that constant "upheaval" Entry fell in love with and found solace in Hip Hop. Drawn to the gritty beats and masterful wordplay of the "Golden Era" he eventually started to pen His own lyrics. Drawing inspiration from greats like Biggie, Nas and Scarface it's easy to see where his style developed from.

Over the better part of the last decade Entry has mastered his own style of fierce lyricism. With a distinct in your face, but not over the top delivery and witty wordplay he has the ability to pull listeners in and keep them hanging on every word. Having performed shows around the local NC circuit from Raleigh to Fayetteville he has his sights set on a much bigger stage. With artists like Royal Entry carrying the torch it's easy to see why the future of Hip Hop looks brighter than ever.

Royal Entry has opened for a number of guests, including:

This is what the prestigious publicist had to say...

"A hard hittin, high energy street anthem "Im On The Block"  by Scotty Beamin & General P is just what the rap game has been missing! Witty word play with gritty street appeal is exactly what the discerning fan has been yearning for."

Artist Spotlight: Lazurus

Biography
To Benjamin Curtis, “Lazurus” is not simply a stage name, it defines the literal story of his life. Born March 2, 1987, baby Benjamin died on the same day. Fourteen minutes after taking what was thought to be his last breath, Benjamin came back to life—earning him the nickname “Lazurus” that has stuck with him to this day. Lazurus has kept his original birth certificate, death certificate, and second birth certificate as proof of what can only be described as a miracle.

Just as Lazurus’ entrance to this world was dramatic, so has been the live he has lived since. His wisdom extends beyond his years, but that wisdom has been earned through many widely varied life experiences. Lazurus graduated high school early, worked two jobs while putting himself through school, earned two Associate’s Degrees, worked for a top video game design company, and abandoned all that to pursue his true passion—hip hop. In pursuit of his dream, he has experienced homelessness, loss of loved ones, and all the emotions that come with those events. All of these experiences and emotions can be heard and felt through his music. Lazurus describes himself as a storyteller utilizing his generation’s method of communication, hip hop,to share these many life experiences.

Influenced by Canibus, Eminem, and OneBelo from Binary Star, Lazurus began rapping at 17. He has put out six solo albums since: Ego Trip (March 2006), Raw, Uncut, and Lactose Free (January 2008), Limerence(February 2008), Long Days and Fast Nights (September 2008), The Fusion Dance (October 2008), AlieNation (August 2010), Solstice (Dec 2012), Do It Yourself (2017). In 2005, Lazurus came together with Rsonist and together created the group Lazrso. The group has since expanded to include S. Gold, Streets and Millie Vaughn. Lazurus has performed on virtually every stage in North Carolina, as well as various venues from the Northeast to California—performing with local artists as well as big names such as Chitty Bang, Tyga, Tanya Morgan, Little Brother, Nappy Roots, Wale, Digable Planets, BOB, Trae The Truth, Wiz Kahlifa and many many more. .

Spotlight: Ron Wave

Artist: Ron Wave
Song Title: 20 Hunnit

Ron Wave has developed quite a buzz over the past few months as he has accumulated over 100,000 plays on his Soundcloud page. The Baltimore artist proves that his wave is only growing with his latest release, "20 Hunnit" produced by Jon Boy Ice. Ron Wave has created a refreshing new sound and has delivered consistent heat in 2016. We look forward to watching him in 2017 and will keep you posted about the release date of his debut project, "Icey 1996."

While he might have spent a bit of time in sunny California growing up – make no mistake, Ron Wave IS Baltimore to the very core.  Born to entertain – he grew up acting in commercials and TV-shows before making the most serious move of his entire career with a transition into music and straight to the mic.
Somewhere around his sophomore year, he made changes from being the crazy-guy to getting serious & studying the frequencies and vibrations we all vibe on collectively.  Learning the importance of energy its karmic relationship between humanity and life all around us – Ron’s rhymes also began to take on noticeable positivity and an authentic approach to unifying the people through music.
A true voice for the voiceless – Ron Wave sets the example for balance in life and leads the way to a brighter tomorrow for us all through the lyrics he writes.  A champion of the underdog and tireless enthusiast – Ron makes music to inspire the leaders of tomorrow every bit as much he does to create something big & ballin’ to listen to.  Also affiliated with the high-energy crew LOCVLS Only – Ron Wave is one of the hardest-working, dedicated & driven artists making real change within the rap/hip-hop scene…he isn’t just here to spit more rhymes at ya – he’s here to make a difference in this world.

Natalac Keeps the Pimp Hop Flowing with 10th Studio Album

Natalac Keeps the Pimp Hop Flowing with 10th Studio Album

True artistry comes with innovation, and with that comes a talent that’s been making noise since the 90’s, Natalac. With hip hop in his blood, the veteran emcee wanted something more from his rhymes and thus – pimp hop was born. Since it’s birth, pimp hop has led this rapper on one wild ride that’s had him everywhere from BET to an animated hit series.
One of his biggest songs to date, “Pimp of the City,” garnered him attention from BET and with that came airplay in the Carolinas. His music is almost as recognizable as his face. So if his face looks familiar, well that’s because his image was used in The Boondocks as the character Slickback, a pimp – obviously. All of his success could not have been possible without his twist on hip hop. Which can be heard with his latest single, “Rates.”

Artist Spotlight: Ghost Dog

This Southeast Hip Hop artist spotlight is on rising hip hop recording artist GHOST DOG.

        Ghost Dog Bio

Ghost Dog:  the vengeful spirit of hip-hop.  Not content to let the
art form die out in a commercial fizzle; this NC-based lyricist
seamlessly combines razor-sharp wordplay, wickedly-clever concepts,
and a limitless spectrum of moods and subject matter into an
intelligent and truly unique package.

"I chose Ghost Dog because the essence of the character from the movie
fits me nicely, and the Hagakure (which the movie was based on) helped
to bring about a major transition in my life.  I live and die by a
certain code, and betray it for nothing.  I have always been drawn to
martial arts, Eastern philosophy, and Bushido; and this is often
reflected in my music.  In fact, when I am not working on music, I'm
usually either teaching or training in Kantan Wushu (a system
comprised of Ch'uan Fa, Tae Kyon, and Jujutsu); of which I've been a
student for the last 15 years.  My influences include (but are not
limited to):  life experiences, personal reflections, martial arts,
current events, anime, video games, movies, chess, dreams, 9 to 5
life, battles fought (physically and mentally), and my various
encounters with people from all over the world."

"I've played live in Raleigh, NC at Berkeley Café (with Doodlebug of
Digable Planets as well as Tanya Morgan), The Lincoln Theater (with
Median), The Brewery, The Metro Cafe, Raleigh Music Hall (with
Supastition), Katmandu, King's Barcade, The Hi-5, The Red Room, Ruckus
Pizza, and NC State Campus.  I've performed in Greensboro, NC at 103.1
WUAG and wrecked numerous freestyle cyphas; & am a co-founder of the
NC State Cypher (Cypher UniverCity) that has been a staple of NC
hip-hop for the last 7 years.

“In Chapel Hill, NC, I've rocked Mansion 462 with Kenn Starr and Kev
Brown; and also performed at The Blend.  In Wilmington, NC, I’ve
performed numerous times at The Whiskey & The Soapbox.  I’ve rocked
parties, shows, and weddings in Taipei, Taiwan and Negril, Jamaica.
I’ve had the honor of performing in the presence of Talib Kweli, who
sought me out after my set to tell me my music was an inspiration; &
also of opening for Cappadonna from the world-renowned Wu-Tang Clan,
who actually stopped mid-set to show appreciation & respect for what I
do.  I’ve been successfully touring with Cesar Comanche, founding
member of Justus League & member of the Black Jedi Zulu Chapter, for
the last 4 years under the Building Bridges Tour banner; performing in
front of packed crowds across NC, VA, FL, TN, NO, TX, RI, CT, ME, MA,
& NH.  I have sat in as a guest speaker in classes on Sociology in
Hip-Hop at FSU. I have performed for and been a guest speaker
presiding over several classes on hip-hop for aspiring musicians &
at-risk teens.  I have also opened for Killah Priest of Wu-Tang,
Casual of Hieroglyphics, Prince Po of Organized Konfusion, and
Blueprint; sometimes solo & sometimes alongside my crew the 1100
Hunters.  I really enjoy performing at shows, and I also love
organizing quality hip-hop events & promoting unity through hip-hop.
Any time you can step back & really feel yourself in your element is a
special moment…”

"I'm not going to try to gas ya head up; I just try to make the type
of hip-hop I like to listen to. It's different; sometimes it's got a
message, sometimes I just like to flip tha wordplay. I work with an
assortment of producers that spend a lot of time at what they do. I
myself have been honing my craft over the last 23 years, and continue
to evolve as an MC. I think if you check it out and you even remotely
like hip-hop, you'll hear somethin' you like."

Ghost Dog currently has five full-length albums out:  “Hidden in the
Leaves” (’03), “Out of the Woodworks” (’06), “Relics of tha Lost Art”
(’09), “Ghost in the Darkness” (’11); and “Ghost in the Shell” (‘13).
He has a free bonus EP entitled “Ghost Recon” out currently and a
collaborative EP with Sharp Cuts (collectively known as Phantom Blade)
by the name of “The Barber’s Chair EP” that was released on February
29th, 2016; as well as a full-length in the works entitled “Beware the
Phantom Blade”.  His sixth full-length solo LP, “Dreams of a Wandering
Samurai”, releases February 23rd, 2017.  His group 1100 Hunters has an
album out by the name of “Long-Winded” that was released in 2011; &
they were nominated for the best hip-hop group in NC for the 2012
Carolina Music Awards.
