Interview with SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  What's up SCAV?  How are you?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  I am doing well.  I can’t complain I am still breathing.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  What is S.O.L. Entertainment and what does it stand for?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  Situations Of Life.  Actually it’s a movement consisting of music, film, and production.  The group was started in 1996 by my older brother SAMPL while he was in high school.  He will be coming home next year from a 13 year (vacation) lol.  I have been carrying the torch and had to take over during his absence to take the S.O.L brand to the next level. This is just a stepping stone in order to reach other outlets that we wish to tap into.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  How long have you been organizing and hosting events?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  Actually this is my first time ever hosting an event let alone of this magnitude.  I am not a promoter, but I am business minded and decided to do something totally outside of my comfort zone.  I asked people in the city how they felt about show cases, and the answers were eye opening.  Turns out a lot of promoters just put on showcases and build them on lies and hopeful dreams they promise the artist in order to financially gain off them.  One of my goals is to put on a showcase that not only our city can be proud of but that carries a reputable reputation of standing for an honest showcase.  I believe the artist should gain from the showcases not the other way around.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  What type of event is The King of The Stage?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  The ‘King Of The Stage Showcase’ is a multi-genre talent showcase basically.  I want to give artist a real platform just like the originator of ‘Summer Jam’ in New York & the originator of ‘Birthday Bash’ in Atlanta for example.  Every huge entity started off as a small idea someone had and this show is no different to me.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  What other events do you have coming up soon?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  The ‘King Of The Stage Showcase’ will be held on July 20th 2014 in Orlando Florida.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  I see that Larry Poynter Jr. the CEO of South Coast Records will be a judge at the forthcoming King of the Stage event, do you often have South Coast Records apart of your events?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  This is our first time doing business together and I cannot be any more excited to be working with South Coast Records.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  What's your favorite song by a South Coast Records recording artist?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  I like their movement as a whole but I am more familiar with Some Kosher Yuppy.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  How did you get introduced to South Coast Records?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  Through my younger brother he goes by Oacekid one of the hottest and talented producers in Orlando FL.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  What artists do you have booked for this upcoming event?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  For the upcoming KOS showcase we have some really talented artist coming from Atlanta including Big Sam from Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys. Also some of the hottest acts from the city including Streets from DH, Twan D the student, Big Dexx, Jae Heez, and some other special invited guest.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  How can managers or agents get in touch with you about sending their artists to you for consideration for being booked at
future events?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  Through email which is kingofthestage@yahoo.com or by calling 470-238-9951
NOTE:  Tell 'em you got the information from South East Hip Hop Magazine!!  Let 'em know where you say it!

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  What plans do you have the rest of 2014?
SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  Basically networking with everyone just trying to build an empire one day at a time. Working on putting together a five to ten city tour for artist in the south to be able to perform and promote themselves in different markets.

South East Hip Hop Magazine:  Is there anything else you would like to plug?  Any shout outs?  SCAV of S.O.L. Entertainment:  Definitely Shout outs to all the real ones still out there. Shout out to BSMG, Big Sam,Salvatore, Rico Qpee, Larry Poynter, April Ricchuito, D-Rugg Orlando, Atlanta, SCR, Tah-O, DH, Oacekid, SAMPL, PROPH, MISERY, DESERT E and anyone else that supports my movement. I appreciate the look from SouthEast Hip Hop Magazine I wish them well and much success.

Love & Hip Hop Southeast: Don't Move on To The Next if You Aren't Over You Ex

Don't Move on To The Next if You Aren't Over You Ex...

(Miss Jay AKA Some Girl Named Jay)

Explain this to me people…why do we try to get into new relationships when we still haven’t gotten over the last one?!  Do people honestly think that going into a new relationship with an open door to the last one is going to blossom blissfully?...uuuuum noooo it’s a set up for COMPLETE disaster!!!  Here you are pursing this man/woman knowing damn well your heart is still set on your past.  This new man/woman thinks things are moving along nicely HOWEVER the whole time you can’t give yourself completely to them.  Why can’t you give yourself completely to them?  It’s because maybe in your mind things will change with your ex and ya’ll can be back together again.  How unfair to the new boo...close the door to the past or just be by yourself until you do...no one deserves to be your rebound.

~Some girl named Jay~

Just Another Day: Taking A Visit To Skool City

Just Another Day...."Taking a Visit to Skool City"

by Renee Batson (Miss Afrosoul)

Most recently I interviewed a member of the group "Skool City". For those who are not familiar with Skool City let me introduce them to you!  Skool City is a Canadian hip hop group which is made up of two members, Kachinga is one and the other is Neemz Beats.  The two combined make some of the illest music of this generation.   Nowadys music has become so saturated with a lot of nothingness but Skool City represents a lot of what is missing from today's hip hop culture.

I recently interviewed Kachinga for my show on MixxMafiaRadio.  During this interview I came across a song they did that I never heard before. Needless to say I fell in love with their song titled "Love"... From the intro, to the beat, to the lyrical content, to the hook...the song is now embedded in my brain! Lol...I'm glad its there on the daily!
These two are a testament that hip hop, the real truth of hip hop, lives here within these Canadian walls!!
So you can really see what Im talking about, check out Skool City @
www.skoolcity.bandcamp.com or www.soundcloud.com/skoolcitymusic.

Not only are they amazing artists but humble to the knowledge they acquired by a group out here that goes by the name of "The Lytics".  The story of the lytics will soon be told so ya'll can really see what Canada has been up to all this time!!!

Peace love & long live HipHop!!!

Just Another Day: I know I am capable of becoming a LEGEND!!

Just Another Day.... "I know I am capable of becoming a LEGEND!!"

by Renee Batson (Miss Afrosoul)

I was sitting here thinking about all the experiences, good and bad, that I have had up until this moment.
I have worked with quite a few people over the years and despite some issues we may have had, I learned a lot about what I should expect from myself as an artist.  I consider my style, my musical direction and creativity to be unique and thought provoking and my sound is powerful.

Most people may think songwriting is easy for me but in fact it can be difficult emotionally and it can often be a struggle connecting words to make a song sound fluid and not forced.  The GREATEST complement one could ever get is to see and hear that your words impacted someone profoundly.  I have achieved that feedback in my career to which I know I am capable of becoming a LEGEND!!

You see, everyone is destined to be great.  Some take it by the horns while others watch it pass!!  Which is why I dj/host two radio shows, edit one of them, network on a regular basis with artists/producers etc, in addition I make time for performances and drop hooks on a few artists songs, but that's not all i am capable of oh no.  Its those things, and more  that make up Afrosoul!!

Music, and every aspect has saved my life so why wouldn't I save hers!!!
Peace love & Melody!!!
