South East Hip Hop Magazine sits and chops it up with the winner of South East Hip Hop Magazine's "Best Video" Award on Feb. 2014's "BEST OF" List, Coach Real to discuss his music video response to Kendrick Lamar. Coach real is a New York stationed emcee, and in addition to talking about his music video that was listed on our "Best Of Feb. 2014" list, Coach Real talks to us about his music, sticking up for NY Hip Hop, working with Robinlynne of Vibes Live Radio and more! South East Hip Hop Magazine: What have you been up to Coach Real?
Coach Real: I have been extremely busy twenty hours a day I only sleep three to four hours a day I'm either working on music my movie, my radio station or a interview and a few other things.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: You have been named #1 for indie Hip Hop artists in New York City according to various social media and music sites, how do you feel about that and what brought you to the top?
South East Hip Hop Magazine: So it's safe to say that you are the "real King of N.Y." right?
South East Hip Hop Magazine: You recently went hard at Kendrick Lamar in your latest video as well as getting at Trinidad James in another single.... for the viewers that haven't heard those songs yet, could you tell the readers a little bit about what you are saying to these artists and how you put them in their places about speaking on New York?
South East Hip Hop Magazine: Who are your favorite New York based artists right now?

South East Hip Hop Magazine: You have been named #1 for indie Hip Hop artists in New York City according to various social media and music sites, how do you feel about that and what brought you to the top?
Coach Real: Well the first day I was named #1 in the state of New York the feeling was surreal. I have worked extremely hard to represent for my city and I achieved that goal in a two month period with no mixtape or major single release or label backing. Then the next day I find out I'm #1 in New York #1 in the country and #1 on earth for hiphop/rap that made me stand still I was shocked I'm still in shock not that I did it but the fact I did all three back to back within twenty four hours of each other just amazes me. I have achieved a lot threw social media a million song plays and a million video plays all under a month without youtube is unheard of its a very humbling experience to see so many people support like and believe in me and whatever i do. This process took countless hours of everyday dedication I have been doing what you pay a marketing staff off eight people or more to do on my own just me and my partner Bobet the C.F.O. Sleeper Cell Ent. He is the creator of both sleeper cell logos and the Coach Real and Gorilla Gang logo his media expertise along with VR marketing is priceless and he is a valuable asset to my company. He has been with me from the start so along with his helping hand with building my brand merchandise n etc. This journey has been more than just real its been life altering I was hospitalized for exhaustion, dehydration and lack of eating in December from working 9 days straight without really eating or drinking and did not sleep a min and my body shut down on me completely all at once so when it comes to making sacrifices for this I have literally put my life on the line to achieve the things that i have so I learned a very valuable lesson never over do it a lot of times as perfectionist we go over board in every thing we do every minor detail has to be covered and I was doing to much I learned to balance things out and now everything moves at my pace no rush for tomorrow to come i enjoy my work by the day.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: So it's safe to say that you are the "real King of N.Y." right?
Coach Real: Yeah I think its safe to say that because look at it like this men lie women lie but numbers don't and according to the numbers I AM THE #1 INDEPENDENT HIP HOP ARTIST ON EARTH SO YES THE FANS HAVE CROWNED ME KING and I am humbled by it because on a main stream level I'm not as popular as other artist which is fine cause I haven't reached that level of success yet but on the independent level MY LEVEL I have earned the title KING. My grind and music speak for themselves.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: You recently went hard at Kendrick Lamar in your latest video as well as getting at Trinidad James in another single.... for the viewers that haven't heard those songs yet, could you tell the readers a little bit about what you are saying to these artists and how you put them in their places about speaking on New York?
Coach Real: ok the reason I went at Kendrick Lamar is because when he did his control verse and stated he was Machaveli off spring he is the king of New York and he is the king of both coast he can juggle them both. For me I see the direct sign of disrespect in his words by him stating he is Macheveli's off spring he is referring to 2Pac and if you know your history Pac was born in Harlem so what you really saying is Pac was King of New York if he is his off spring and that is just disrespectful in so many ways we all know biggie was king of New York not Pac and Kendrick as far as bars go isn't king of the west everybody that knows who's who in the game right now knows Crooked Eye IS THE NICEST MC BAR FOR BAR LINE FOR LINE. The other reason is he is a rookie himself only one established album out and now he feels he can talk crazy nah not while I'm here so I clearly let him know that not only did I not appreciate his comments about my city but I also let him know SLOW DOWN HOME BOY WE STILL GOT MC'S IN NEW YORK THAT WILL TAKE YOUR HEAD OFF SPITTIN BARS AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. I also just feel like there is more hype to Kendrick then skill he is Jimmy Ivenes golden boy Doc Dre is backing him and with hip hop music being in the current state its in of course the kid with the weird alien voice rapping different then all of the other slow bop boogy strip club rappers in the country is going to shine but the is he the answer to hip hop HELL NO these media idiots got this kid thinking he should be in the same ranks as Rakim or Big Pun and that's is just completely false and crazy this kid couldn't hold BIG PUNS JOCK STRAP pun was one of the nicest MC'S TO EVER WALK THE FACE OF EARTH and Rakim the GOD MC you must be out your rabbit ass mind to believe that this kid has earned that type of respect because he has not it takes time years in the game to earn those kind of stripes and that he has not done so to me he is really not that good keeping it 100. As for Mr. pink panties Trinidad James he signed his own death certificate real rap how are you going to be so wreckless to the point that you feel you can come do a show in New York city in Brooklyn none the less and stop the show and dedicate a whole segment of his show to talking shit about New York and reality is Trinidad James is a one hit wonder in Hip Hop which means he is NOBODY to comment on anything that has to do with the current state of hip hop being that his only contribution to hip hop was that wack ass strip club record all gold everything are you serious he IS HORRIBLE IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD AS A RAPPER AND HAS NO TALENT and damn sure doesn't have any street credibility to be talking wreck-less about any city while he is in it damn sure not New York. I happen to be in my studio and I'm reading on twitter Maino going at Trinidad for making those comments and my producer happen to send me a beat and I literally laid that track off the dome in 7 min flat sent it back to my producer Stephen Farr for Feta productions and he was the one that said "Coach you buried this dude alive on the track" and he added the sermon in the middle of the record and named it THE SERMON and the rest was history there is nothing he can say to respond to that record I LITERALLY TOOK HIS HEAD OFF so that he remembers never to violate my city again with his pink underwear wearing metrosexual ass but see I blame some of that on us as a city we have allowed these dudes to come here break records do shows get love just get to comfortable to the point that people think were weak now. I am a living breathing example and proof that not only were not allowing anyone to take shots anymore but we also still have some of the greatest talent in the hip hop game and my music and my numbers have prove that.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: Who are your favorite New York based artists right now?
Coach Real: My favorite New York based artist my man Adam Deitch and CX representin BREAK SCIENCE- LDJ- MURCIALAGO AND HIS FRAT HOUSE TEAM FRED DA GODSON MY NIGGA GOODZ AND THE GROWN MAN BARS CAMP MAINO AND THE MAFIA MY NIGGA JADAKISS, STYLES P, AND JOEL ORTIZ, NAS, HOV, AND IF THEY WERE STILL HERE BIG PUN WOULD BE #1 IN MY BOOK AND THEN BIGGIE OF COURSE RAKIM.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: Getting back to the Kendrick Lamar response, your video was named "The Best Music Video for Feb. 2014" how do you feel about that?
Coach Real: Another humbling experience once again I thank all the fans that showed the video so much love and support also the camera man and director DARREN MURRAY we shot 3 videos that day and "Control" was the last one my cousin RELL scouted the location and me and Darren did the treatment live on the spot and you see the results and I just appreciate even being considered for video of the month so to win for the month of Feb 2014 I'm blessed thank you so much for the achievement.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: Your music is often in heavy rotation on Vibes Live's 24 Hour Live stream... could you tell the readers a little bit about your connection with Vibes Live and what it's like working with the station's program director Robinlynne?
Coach Real: About 8 months ago I met Robinlynne Mabin she was the radio host for this music website I was signed up for and I was her first exclusive on air interview over there and I happen to record the interview and added a piece of it to my upside down pound cake freestyle and we always remained friends from that time on so whatever site she would broadcast for or on I would come and support and then she got involved with a CROOKED WEB SITE that was given FREE airtime by Robin but this female scam artist was charging people that signed up on her site for air time and never gave Robin a penny of that money and also had donation widgets up and never gave Robin any of that money either. So one day it all came to a head when the scam artist chic charged someone for airtime for a artist to get promoted on the radio interviews etc etc and robin was never made aware of this by the scam artist chic so I get a call from Robin and she explains to me what is going on and we were just having a conversation as friends and I gave her some advice. In the course of us conversation Robin asked me if I could take over thing and manage all affairs moving forward so the next day we did some paper work got all the details worked out and i officially became the sole owner and head of vibes live radio with my partner Robinlynne still as program director and executive producer and Robin is a very good person will do anything to help anyone so its always a pleasure working with her were moving along nicely and we have a lot coming up in 2014 for vibes live so look out for that .
South East Hip Hop Magazine: How would you describe Coach Real as an artist and as a brand?
Coach Real: Coach Real as a artist I would describe as pure talent a excellent creator and a hands on specialist I touch and handle every single part of my career to beat selection some times I produce the record I do all the writing with my music so I am a very vivid writer I paint words well I write my video treatments, I also have and can direct as well I manage my own career and I do all of my social media work promotions etc. Coach Real as a brand I would say is a life brand I'm just like your everyday person that had a dream I just decided to turn my dream into a reality and that's what I bring to the table as a brand something and someone that everyone can relate to and my music touches a wide variety when it comes to subject matter so I have something for everyone.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: You are also involved with a few projects outside of the music business, what are some of those projects? You have a movie that is in the works correct?
Coach Real: Yes outside of music I am working on a documentary type movie that brings my story as a up and coming artist from the streets of New York that makes his dreams come true and the escalation into a business man and running my company at an executive level with my partner Bobet. We are also in the process of making clothing merchandise that will be featured on the new Coach Real web site that is being built right now so we will have t shirts, sweat shirts, Hoodies, hats and jackets. I also been working on developing a women's shoe line and I'm also teaming up with a good friend of mines Ronnie Black Street on another movie project that we will be filming this year as well the Coach Real movie will be in Sundance Film Festival next year so look out for that.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: This question may be off the record, but just to give advice to other indie artists doing what you do, what would you say is your main source of income when it comes to the music? Coach Real: Your best income as a independent artist is independent income such as show money making your own merchandise and selling it at your shows or on your website including your music because at the end of the day as a independent artist the more you keep in house the less over head you have so instead of paying someone to make 500 t shirts with design buy the press machine yourself and learn how to make the designs for your t. It's cost effective. We live in a capitalist based country so its only common sense to capitalize on things you make on your own. Always remember when your on a budget as a independent artist the less over head the better.
South East Hip Hop Magazine: What advice would you give other up and coming New York based artists?
Coach Real: To all the upcoming New York artists my advice to you is to be yourself. Represent where your from, rap like where you're from. Don't be a New York artist, but your whole mixtape or album sounds like your from Atlanta or Florida. Never forget as New Yorkers were trend setters and game changers represent for our city and be proud to say your from New York City.

Coach Real: For the rest of the year I'm working on my album an EP project and my artist BIZZY. I'm going to start working on his new EP this spring and still pushing my brand to its fullest capacity.
